Animal species studied

The  department name of "Pets and Sport Animals" refers to domestic carnivores (dogs and cats) but also to horses and new pets such as ferrets, rabbits, rodents and exotic birds.

Research on wildlife aims at improving the well-being of animals living in zoos and in semi-natural reserves, for example, by means of studies on environmental enrichment or through direct interventions in order to minimize stress during handling or transportation (changing enclosure, re-introduction, etc.).

Area of competence

Cats' well-being

Cat

Our research has led to the development of pheromones for managing territorial problems concerning cats: urine marking, scratch marking, transportation (use of Feliway®), acceptance of a new cat(use of Felifriend®).

The following research performed on dogs and horses has led to the validation of a family of pheromones called  "appeasines" which are used to improve their well-being in stressful or fearful situations.

Dogs' well-being

Dog

The synthetic analogue of the dog appeasine is called DAP® for "Dog Appeasing Pheromone®". It is used for fears expressed both outside the house (panic, anxiety, shaking, fear of noises) and inside the house (destruction, moaning and howling in the absence of the owner).

The DAP® is also recommended to prevent stress when puppies are taken away from their mother. They are reassured and do not cry during the nights following adoption.

Horses' well-being

Horse

Equanimity® is the name of our Horse Appeasing Pheromone analog. It is used against stress caused by transportation, loading into a trailer, handling, arrival in new environments and breaking.

Wild animals' well-being

Przewalski horses This research is in progress. Our team intervenes sporadically, at the request of  zoos, in order to manage predictable stress situations (transportation, new enclosure, arrival of a new animal, re-introduction to natural environment) and to find solutions for well-known stressful situations (anxiety, stereotypy).

One of our recent interventions took place upon the request of the Takh association, in collaboration with WWF-Mongolia, which is in charge of the French project for the re-introduction of Przewalski horses into their original environment: the Mongolian steppes.

Our marketed products

Feliway

The cat's facial marking pheromone: Feliway® ND

Feliway® is a structural analogue reproducing the emotional stabilization properties of the cat marking facial pheromone.

This substance is put on objects of the cat's environment, telling it its territory is well-organised and that everything is all right. Feliway® allows cat owners to control the problematic behaviours a territory disturbance can bring. This product is distributed under two galenical forms, spray bottles and electrical diffusers.

This product is marketed under three different names:

  • Feliway® (France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, Australia, Portugal, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, Taiwan),
  • Comfort Zone® with Feliway® (USA),
  • Catitude® (Netherlands)
Feliway® is a patented product and is the subject matter of European Patent 0724832 and U.S. Patent 5,709,863 and foreign equivalents.

Felifriend The cat's allomarking face pheromone: Felifriend® ND

Felifriend® is a structural analogue reproducing the emotional stabilization properties of the facial pheromone of cat allomarking.

Cats put this pheromone on every living subject (both men and animals) they get along with. Felifriend® enables cat owners to control the problems the arrival of a newcomer (cat, dog, baby, etc.) could  generate on the cat's territory.

This product is distributed under the spray bottle form:
Felifriend® (France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, UK, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand).

Felifriend® is a patented product and is the subject matter of European Patent 0724832 and U.S. Patent 5,709,863 and foreign equivalents.

DAP The soothing pheromone of the bitch : DAP® ND

DAP® is a structural analogue reproducing the soothing properties of the dog maternal pheromone.

This pheromone is secreted by the bitch after the birth and contributes to the puppies' attachment to their mother.

DAP® can sooth both puppies and grown up dogs whatever their fears.

This product is distributed under three galenical forms: collars, spray bottles and electrical diffusers.

  • DAP® (France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, UK, Sweden, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, Australia)
  • Doggytude® (Netherlands)
  • Comfort Zone® with DAP® (USA)
DAP® is a patented product and is the subject matter of European Patents EP 0948963 and EP 1047415 and U.S. Patents 6,077,867, 6,054,481, 6,169,113 and 6,384,252 and foreign equivalents.

Equanimity The soothing pheromone of the mare : Equanimity®

Equanimity is a structural analogue reproducing the soothing properties of the horse maternal pheromone.

This pheromone is secreted by the mare, in the cirrus area, after foaling and contributes to the foal's attachment to its mother.

Equanimity can sooth both foals and adult horses whatever fears they may suffer.

EQUANIMITY® is distributed under the form of a watery gel in stick (10 or 48 sticks per box).

EQUANIMITY®

Equanimity® is a patented product and is the subject matter of European Patents EP 0948963 and EP 1047415 and U.S. Patents 6,077,867, 6,054,481, 6,169,113 and 6,384,252 and foreign equivalents.
